Open Call Briefs - Lost and Found: 2025

When I look at an open call brief I think about a few different things. Firstly does the brief apply to me? Does the subject resonate with me? Do I have the work already? Am I inspired to create something new?
A brief like lost and found offers many different avenues.
You could go literal and show a lost object whether it’s an item in an unusual location an empty space or a broken object something that is lost.
The same with found again an object in an unusual location, but you could also look at a different narrative . What does lost mean to you?
It doesn’t have to be a physical object. It could be a mental state or moment in time. It could be a journey that finds yourself in a location you are not expecting. And again with found have you found a new moment? A new love? A new project? A new direction?
Once you’ve decided which direction you want to take the subject, then I look at my work, does any of my work fit or am I going to go out and create new work that fits my subject? Either way? It’s an opportunity to discover a new direction a new idea and possibly experiment outside my normal work.
What I will look for in this selection process is an image that you have created that I feel answers the brief, maybe has used a different or unusual technique or has been approached with thought.
