Faultlines
Faultlines: Irina Chernikova
Faultlines is a series that delves into the Ohlone history at Mussel Rock, a site where an ancient Ohlone village once stood, located at the intersection of the San Andreas fault line and the Pacific Ocean. The project began in 2016 while I was making a documentary film about Mussel Rock, during which I conducted numerous interviews and extensive research to uncover its layered past. As part of this exploration, I attended and photographed several Ohlone celebrations, and I continue to visit both the site and these cultural events, long after the film's completion. Since then, I’ve devoted many months to creating a series of images using the gum arabic transfer technique. I’ve also pushed this further by incorporating 3D software and producing a video piece. For this exhibition, I would like to submit a selection of original gum arabic prints from the series.
