Fragile

Fragile : Alexandra Campbell

This photograph delves into the fragile interplay between loss and discovery, centering on an overlooked fragment nestled within the organic decay of nature. A torn page, half-buried among leaves and twigs, becomes a quiet yet poignant symbol—a relic of something once whole, now displaced and forgotten. Its delicate text, barely legible through the layers of debris, hints at a story interrupted, a narrative severed from its source. The tangled branches and scattered leaves evoke a sense of chaos, yet they also cradle the fragment, suggesting that even in disarray, there is preservation. Nature’s reclamation of the object adds a layer of ambiguity: is it being lost further to the earth, or is it being found anew in this moment? The choice to use black-and-white film enhances the photograph’s duality, stripping the scene to reveal the tension between absence and presence, past and present. The page’s existence in this context aims to raise questions regarding memory, impermanence, and the way the overlooked can become meaningful when rediscovered. Through this image, I aimed to explore the concept of being lost yet querying whether this is not an end but rather a part of an ongoing process of rediscovery. What we perceive as forgotten may only be waiting to be found, transformed by the layers of time and environment or even the factor of chance.
